Fae
General info
Once a creature reaches a certain age the amount of magic their body can withstand rapidly grows over the course of approximately ten years. This means that all fae are extremely magically gifted. This way of magic potential increase comes with its risks and drawbacks as any other would. These are the several points that are shared among most if not all of the Fae. Here is a nonexhaustive list of them:
incapable of lying
closely tied to their first name
they can open a gateway to Underhill (be it intentional or unintentional)
closely tied to their underhill space
will not show their face to anyone
tendency for inactiveness or hibernation
there are rumors of being able to control a fae if you know the true name and face of the fae in question
Underhill
Any fae of sufficient age can create a gateway if given the right environment. The specifics of the gate creation have not been documented, yet. When a fae enters Underhill through a gateway the exit tends to default to their own space. Every space is connected to a central spire though in most cases the connection is not obvious and very hard to find. The fae is generally aware of their space and WILL notice should you make significant damage to the area. Whether or not this causes any direct harm is unclear. Exiting a space back Overhill tends to be overly complicated but not impossible as the fae will usually connect their space to several other points in any dimension they have acess to, in order to have a quick way to travel long distances. As such there are theories of anyone being able to traverse quickly and precisely should they have sufficient knowledge of Underhill. There is no confirmation of these theories as this would require collecting a large amount of data in openly hostile environments, which has proven challenging. The individual spaces seemed infinite, but they are not, they simply loop in on themselves to create a perception of infinity. Concluding on other research, there also seems to be a ceiling so to speak. Research suggests that should anyone ascend upwards far enough, they would enter the Celestial which itself seems to have a very similar functionality to Underhill.
Courts
Usually once someone becomes a fae they are forced to join a court as quickly as possible. Those that manage to avoid joining any courts are generally considered dangerous as they have managed to convince each of the representatives that they will in fact not be joining their court. The representatives tend to be those that want to gain social status within the court by getting themselves an “apprentice”. The convincing can get rather violent, but there have not been any documented deaths, yet.
Unseelie
Winter
Considered the most dangerous, though from personal experience they are not. Their magic has the tendency to drastically cool the area around them. If you are trying to avoid a winter fae you can use this to your advantage as even when they are inactive the temperature in the area is lower by at least 3K. They have more say in the Unseelie, because they are ironically more active in the court meetings. They are known for their “cold” demeanor during social events, however the real personality can be drastically different outside of official situations.
Fall
Considered less important than winter or summer fae but more important than spring fae. Their magic tends to produce a lot of windy weather. They are significantly less represented in the court even though there are more active Fall fae than Winter fae. They highly promote their avoidance of politics and any official events.
Seelie
Summer
Most active in relation to court meetings be it the balls or sittings. They are considered benevolent but they are NOT and will not hesitate to grant you a fate worse death than a winter fae would even consider if you displease them. Their magic causes an upward temperature shift the same way winter fae magic drops the temperature.
Spring
Least active, especially in court meetings or on official business. There are not many of them and there are even less active ones. They are the only ones who do not actively attempt to gain new members. Their magic does not tend to produce any particularly specific side effects but you can smell spring distinctly in the air when they are present. Although there is no way to confirm this, each of them tends to have a distinct recognizable smell.
